Jobs Title: Facial Motion Recognition using Video Data

Starting Date: between 01 March 2013 and 31 March 2013

Job Time: 6 months

This project is integrated in an international program of excellence “Projet d’Investissement d’Avenir” FIGURES2(Facing Faces Institute GUiding RESearch).

Collaboration:  Dr Stéphanie Dakpé, Pr Devauchelle CHU Amiens

We are searching a potential applicant to work on the recognition problem of facial motions using video data.

Job Objectives:

The successful candidate will work on

1) The development of an appropriate numerical  representation of the human face aiming to characterize the mimics facial motions such as smile, the pronunciation of sounds “O” and “Pou”, the eye closure, etc.

2) The implementation  and performance analysis  of a recognition algorithm (e.g. semi-supervised or supervised classification) to develop a predictive model of facial motions from video database.

Provisory planning:

 Step 1:  Perform the state-of-the-art of the  face recognition and semi-supervised/supervised classification (2 weeks).

 Step 2: Propose an appropriate numerical representation of the human face (4 weeks).

 Step 3: Implement the proposed recognition algorithm to compute the facial numerical representation ofeach facial  mimics motion from a video. The AForge.NET Framework can be used for this task (8 weeks).

 Step 4: Perform the systematic performance evaluation (6 weeks).

 Step 5: Write the thesis and prepare the presentation (4 weeks).

Required qualification: Master’s internship  in  Computer Sciences (Software Engineering, Knowledge Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Databases, Human–Computer Interaction, etc.) or Biomedical Engineering.

Required skills:

 Advanced knowledge/experience in  face recognition, digital imaging and signal processing and/or supervised classification.

 Advanced programming expertise.

 Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

Salary:  420€ per month.
