The laboratory UTC CNRS UMR 7338 Biomechanics and Bioengineering ( at the University of Technology of Compiègne (France) invites applications for a PhD position to begin October-November 2013. The position will be awarded for three years.

Title :
Geometrical and numerical modeling of facial mimics derived from MRI

Description :

This project aims to develop a human individualized head model derived from the MRI technique. Then, the model will be used to perform simulations of the facial mimics (e.g. smile, pronunciation of specific sounds (“O” or “Pou”), eye closure) using finite element method. Systematic validation of the simulation results will be performed using experimental data. Clinical application of the developed model will be studied.

This project is integrated in the “Projet d’Investissement d’Avenir” FIGURES*

Candidates profile: Master’s degree in Physics Mechanics or Biomedical Engineering or Civil Engineering

Required skills:

– Advanced knowledge in numerical simulation (musculoskeletal modeling, finite element method) and ideally experimental measurements (medical imaging)
– Programming expertise
– Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
– Good level in English or/and French
